John Harrison stuff in the future.

Adam - I agree with you that The Pastel City doesn't really deviate much from 1970s sword and sorcery, save for perhaps the setting. Despite the rushed ending (which I forgot to mention in my review) I did really like this story, and yeah - Tomb the Dwarf kicked some serious arse in his power suit.

I do see where you're coming from though - I did struggle at times with much of the later works, though managed to keep going - and I'm glad I did.Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07763695390241432518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5411517893000706576.post-58164962587347449412010-02-05T13:05:52.512+00:002010-02-05T13:05:52.512+00:00I read the first instalment and found it an adequa...I read the first instalment and found it an adequate, MOR, Moorcock-esque 1970s fantasy. The dwarf-in-power-armour sequence was mildly entertaining. I got through the several shorter stories in the collection following it but a little while into the second, extremely miserable and dreary proper novel I realised I really didn't give a toss about anything that was going on in the book, so abandoned it there (highly unusual for me).

I'll give Harrison another go with LIGHT, but up until where I got in the book, VIRICONIUM is easily one of the weakest works of fantasy I've read in the past couple of years.Adam Whiteheadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11383677312079611311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5411517893000706576.post-30009603874781229462010-02-05T01:07:40.097+00:002010-02-05T01:07:40.097+00:00An absolutely brilliant review, James. I've had Virconium on my bookshelves for years, now, but I've never felt the need to read it pressing on me quite as immediately as it does now.

Have you read Light?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08713791516631476930noreply@blogger.com
