As the website points out, this is not a case of simply voting for the best novel released in 2008, but the novel most written in the 'spirit' of the late David Gemmell.
I didn't have to think too long about this at all. My vote went to Paul Kearney's The Ten Thousand.
Kearney's novel, I feel, has real traces of Gemmell - excellent battle scenes, strong characterisation and exploration of themes such as valour, loyalty and courage. Top stuff.
