Dread Empire artwork...

Saw these beauties over at SFFworld (thanks to Rob for the heads up) and just had to post them here. I've already posted an extremely cool Black Company front cover previously, but here are three more awesome covers for some of Glen Cook's Chronicles of the Dread Empire books.

I think these three covers are fantastic - great colours, great textures, and they just look plain cool. Fantasy book covers the way they should be done.

Ah, yes. I think these are all Raymond Swanland and they are fricking awesome. The covers make The Black Company THAT much cooler.

Are the Dread Empire books (pictured above) somehow tied to the Black Company books?

Thanks for the link, Todd.

Jeff - I think I made a mistake, as these are not black company novels. Think they're totally separate but I could be wrong. Not sure if they are set in the same world.

I read A Cruel Wind a while back and posted my thoughts on my blog.

No, they are not set in the same world as The Black Company and they are very good, at least based on the first omnibus from Nightshade Books. I've got the second on my review pile.

Todd, they are indeed Raymond Swanland's work, and his website has some tasty morsels as well.

Thanks for the info Rob.

Agreed, though I couldn't find the Books of the South cover to use as a wallpaper. He has the Chronicles of the Black Company art, but it's just a hair not as good as Croaker's crazy outfit and battle scene. I prefer the content of Chronicles over South, but feel the reverse about the cover art.
